I received this amaryllis as a Christmas gift from a sweet friend. I think I planted it a week or so before Christmas. I have patiently watered (and talked to) it ever since. I was rewarded with the above bloom last week. I had to giggle when I read Mr. Brownthumb's blog the same topic. It stayed vibrant and beautiful for a week or so and now it's withering. But man, do those leaves look great! I guess I'll plant this puppy in my garden in a few weeks (when the threat of a freeze is over). I have learned from this experience that patience in not MY virtue.

Wow, look at that! I love it when the blooms come up first and they're not obscured by the leaves.
On my first scape the first flower I took a photo of is starting to whither, but the other four are still looking good. Plus today I noticed that the second scape is about to burst open soon. So I should have flowers for about another week or more.
I took a new picture of mine today and will probably post it tonight or tommorrow.
I have yet another Amaryllis that's starting to open. Can't wait to see what it's going to be.
Since you know amaryllis', do you have any idea what mine is? I'll watch for more pics.
Everytime someone posts an Amaryllis photo, it makes me regret not buying any this winter - totally a Valentine photo, Chris!

Sorry for the late reply. I wish there was a way to keep up with follow ups that was easy in blogger.
But looking at your pic my guess would be Red Lion or Orange Sovereign. But mostly likely Red Lion. I have a new one blooming that I can't ID it's a smaller one with a deep red color. Makes it hard to photograph with these cloudy days we're having.
